where functional and artistic collide

Artist Statement

The pot is centered about its cavity and as a potter, I am charged with the task of finding a way of conveying mystery, potency, and sensuality, through the building of a piece of work that will be pleasing to the eye and entice one’s touch. My work is handmade, unrepeatable forms made from mostly recycled materials that I hope contain a relevance to the ‘here and now’ and reflect some measure of still essence.

For me, a pot has a strong analogy with the feminine principles, its function is to hold, to preserve, to protect...to receive in and to give out.  My work is simple, evocative symbolism of individual and inter-related objects.  My instinctive response to form and color combined with direct and simple construction methods allow me to pour my “soul” into my work.  All things I make are reflections of how I feel.  I have something I want to produce and it is concerned with emotion, a combination of emotion and craft.  My goal is to produce work that will touch others in such a way that will draw them into my world in some capacity.  Serenity and simplicity are primary.

Kim's signature piece is her one-of-a-kind fusion platter blending handshaped clay with recycled glass.  Check out the photos page for more samples of Kim's work!
